Tuesday – In the Riverside wetland area there are some Alder saplings to pull out, to thin the dense sections out and allow a few to fill out in to “proper trees”. Alder draw up a lot of water to help with natural flood management and store lots of carbon in the process, they also provide good habitat for many invertebrate and bird species during their different growing stages, (if Beaver do ever make it back to this section of the Arun, Alder is one of their favorite foods!).
There is also a couple of sections of Blackthorn beginning to crowd out the footpath that we will thin out and with some of the woody parts we will make reptile and amphibian hibernacula.
